Born and educated in Hong Kong, Peter has been working as a full-time painter in Toronto , Canada since 1996. He is the founding member and former instructor at the Hong Kong Institute of Visual Art. Peter has won numerous awards for his work in advertising and oil paintings. A strong background in graphic design has led him to develop a style of painting that is rich in color and reveals a strong balance of form and composition.

Peter's previous subject matters ranged widely from traditional still-lifes to various landscapes and floral.  Now Peter paints simple houses to represent people.  The houses have small windows as eyes and without doors to signify people’s need for privacy.

After years of painting ‘Housescapes‘, Peter suddenly saw them as friends and relatives, probably due to feeling home sick at the time. Now the houses represent all people. To Peter this is logical because houses protect and cradle lives!

The paintings are usually based on a stage setting design. Sometimes with a dark and disturbed background to suggest turmoil in lives that we have to face in order to grow stronger; other times a peaceful background with graphics representing memories: squares are like picture frames now framing memories; strokes or strips are flashes of memories like films or markings on walls and color-coded rectangular shapes are pages of diaries.

The painting with many houses suggests people living in harmony with one another, with two houses suggests two lovers, and having one house shadowing--protecting--the other, as sign of willingness to scarify for love. A rewarding light comes from above celebrating, blessing them a bright future!
